The first flock of 50 sculptures arrive in London on 28th March, making the capital their home until 25th May. A further flock of 70 b-ewe-tiful sculptures will then graze Bristol’s pastures from 6th July to 31st August. With different sculptures appearing in each city, be sure to catch them both!

Today I participated in a group photo shoot at the Castle in Chandler, AZ. The whole event was organized by Shaun Tia (MM #1047004), an outstandingly talented model. This was the first time I got to shoot with her and would love to have the opportunity in the future. Shantia is a culinary student and will finish her class work this year and then go on to an internship. I would love to do a shoot related to her culinary skills.

I ended getting shots of nine models, so you will be seeing photos from that shoot for a while.

One of our all time favourite movies! We knew it was only a matter of time before we added these characters to the Pixel People patterns in the shop. I started this one as a custom finished piece for a customer, but she changed her mind and wanted it on a grey background instead of the red. Personally, I like the red so I'm happy to keep this one for myself :D

Back in July we went on our daughter's latest present to us - to Bristol. Shaun encouraged all sorts of kids to pose!

"Shaun the shape is a playful celebration of all things farm life, the various bold and bright shapes represent the array of exciting adventures Shaun gets up to and things he may encounter along the way."

"Kelly Ma is an Illustrator and community artist based in Manchester whose work tends to explore playful visual connections between people, culture and cities. She enjoys capturing snippets of the local surroundings and moments we may take for granted, finding joy in the everyday mundane."

I forgot I had this figure lying around, so I snapped a shot of him before I took him apart. Here is Shaun before he removes his jacket in Shaun of the Dead.

PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: One Sunday in July of 2019, we spotted an old doll case. When we saw Starr, in her correct attire, and, better yet, a fully-clothed Tracy, we decided it was worth the twelve dollars the seller was asking, though Shelly haggled the guy down to ten. There were only three dolls in the bin--Starr, Tracy, and an old Sindy doll (who we thought was Tammy at a glance). We hoped there'd be a few Barbie clothes in there as well and there were. What I was sort of surprised and sort of not surprised to find were the items pictured here. Shaun was absent from the bin. I'd have loved to get him clothed. Ironically, there were also pieces to Sport & Shave Ken and Shaun has been modeling his outfit for quite some time. Shelly noticed the guitar and thought it had some connection to Shaun so I perused the Mattel Fashion Doll book while she continued to poke through our new spoils. I saw and loved the little hamburger! Shelly noted the little books and thought they were clone--but cool!--and I pointed out that Star was holding one in her package! That's how I realized that the dolls came with a lot more than you would think, sort of like a little girls dream. You can't see the contents in the box on the back of the tray, displayed, like one normally would. This was a poor marketing strategy because, if I were glancing at these dolls quickly, I wouldn't think they came with much, and they came with a lot. I believe the girls each come with two pairs of shoes! That was how we realized how many neat things the Starr dolls came with. I love the guitar because it is so basic and, because it is clearly quite old, it stands out among our other dolly guitars. I'd forgotten that Starr and her friends were in a band! The football is a personal favorite of mine because it reminds me of the Touchdown Ken fashion! It's a different mold, but similar in shape and color. It has a lot of play value. I love how basic the books are. They will come in handy for doll school scenes. We'd have loved putting them in our Generation Girl International High lockers! I think it is cute that they say English, Biology, and Spanish. It's just so realistic and cute! They have a basic, timeless quality. I like how there is one big one and two smaller ones as well. The little radio is cute. It reminds me of the Busy dolls for some reason. It has a very vintage feel. My favorite piece though is the hamburger...even though I don't eat meat anymore. I just LOVE any kind of doll food and I can never get enough Barbie hot dogs and hamburgers. I like how it is old, like our Soda Shoppe ones (almost ten years older, actually!) and similar in color to the buns. However, it is a mold we've never had before! It's just so much fun!

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I can see why someone would find Shaun and the other Starr dolls mega creepy. I'll admit that when I first encountered photos of this collection in my "Thirty Years of Mattel Fashion Dolls" book, I was taken aback. The dolls sported strange body molds and very animated face molds. Plus they wore tacky clothing that was stylish in the late 70s/early 80s...not always the most flattering ensembles! Anyways, despite their homeliness, I was intrigued. In fact, I was so fascinated by this old school doll line I had been newly introduced to, that I hunted specifically for them at flea markets and secondhand places! Shaun was an amazing addition to my collection. I believe I had him before my Kelley doll, who I most wanted to find. "Mulan Lady" had Shaun on her table during the 2013 or 2014 flea market season. I don't remember if he was nude or dressed up (I want to say he was sporting some sort of Ken ensemble, since "Mulan Lady's" dolls were almost always fully dressed). His body was, and is, entirely limp. Some collectors love strung dolls, since it offers a wide variety of poses. But when dolls who are strung get old, they go limp and "loosey goosey" if you will. Shaun can't do anything anymore---not even stand for this photo (which is why he is borrowing one of my plain, handmade Bratzillaz stands here). But I still love him nonetheless. I've always been a sucker for male dolls, and Shaun definitely has a novelty factor that not any guy doll has. He has a super wide grin, which admittedly almost looks sinister. But I'm not turned off from this doll in the least bit. I find him to be rather dapper in his own way! I wish he was able to hold pose still, because he'd be so much fun to use in photos and such!

The Shaun the Sheep installation (?) started today in Bristol with over 70 of these guys dotted about the place.

I wonder how many I'll end up with after 4 days.

From 6th July to 31st August, the charity are bringing 70 b-ewe-tiful giant Shaun the Sheep sculptures, created by artists, designers and celebrities, to iconic locations and green spaces across Bristol for the public to enjoy. Back in spring, our first flock of 50 entirely ewe-nique Shauns arrived in London on 28th March and made the capital’s pastures their home until 31st May.

Both flocks of Shauns will go to auction later in the year, with funds raised from the 70 Bristol sculptures going to The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity and funds raised from the 50 London sculptures benefitting Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity, supporting children in hospitals across the UK.
